Understanding subtext of a situation?
Subtext is a pretext of intellectualizing acting. All it amouts to is a paraphrase of the lines or putting the characters "real" thoughts behind the words down. Like all ysis of character and scenes by acting techniques, it is mostly useless, a waste of time and energy, and has nothing to do with acting. If the actor knows what his or her job is and does that, they need no ysis. yses lead to planned or stilted acting rather than spontaneous, natural and vulernable acting. Now your acting teacher is going to get all upset if you even mention what I have said. That is because he or she is teaching outdated and quite useless things.
